Kindergarten Orientation
Kindergarten Orientation occurs in Term 4, with three sessions over three consecutive weeks. For optimal school transition, children should participate in the Prep Squad program during Term 2 and 3, prior to Kindergarten Orientation.
The difference between Kindergarten Orientation and the Prep Squad program, is that the Orientation program takes place in the Kindergarten classrooms over three weekly sessions in Term 4. We encourage all students to attend all three Kindergarten Orientation sessions. If you are unable to attend a session, please let us know so we can ensure you receive the appropriate information.
During each session, students will transition into the classroom with play-based activities, followed by structured early literacy and numeracy activities, creative arts and physical activity. During these sessions, students have the opportunity to develop friendships, establish routines and become familiar with the expectations within a classroom environment. Children participate in the Orientation program with the Kindergarten teachers and staff. Parents and carers drop their child at the classroom and are not required to stay.
Parent and carer workshop - Unpacking literacy and numeracy in the classroom
During the second orientation session, we offer a workshop in the school library for parents and carers to learn about how we teach literacy and numeracy in Kindergarten. We will share the current evidence-based research that underpins our teaching practice and show you live demonstrations of the learning activities your child will be involved in and how you can support them at home.
