Students learn a wide range of subjects in the NSW curriculum. They build skills, think creatively and prepare for life beyond school.
NESA Six Learning Areas are:
In our English program, students engage with a variety of texts and compose their own, allowing them to develop essential knowledge, understanding, and skills. Through this process, students will:
- Communicate effectively through speaking, listening, reading, writing, viewing, and representing.
- Utilise language to convey meaning tailored to specific purposes, audiences, and contexts.
- Cultivate imaginative, creative, interpretive, and critical thinking skills.
- Express their identities and relationships with others and the world around them.
- Reflect on their learning experiences and insights gained through their study of English.
At Lindsay Park Public School, our Mathematics curriculum is designed to nurture students' analytical and problem-solving abilities. We focus on building a strong foundation in mathematical principles, encouraging students to approach challenges with confidence and curiosity. The curriculum is structured around four key strands:
- Working Mathematically
Students engage in inquiry-based learning, developing their ability to explore and connect mathematical concepts. They enhance their problem-solving skills through practical applications, fostering clear communication and logical reasoning. - Number and Algebra
Students master efficient strategies for numerical calculations, recognise and create patterns, and understand relationships. They apply algebraic techniques to simplify and solve complex problems. - Measurement and Geometry
Students explore the properties of shapes and objects, learning to visualise and quantify their attributes. They apply measurement concepts and geometric reasoning to solve real-world problems using appropriate formulas and strategies. - Statistics and Probability
Students collect and analyse data, developing skills in interpretation and evaluation. They learn to apply probabilities, enabling them to make informed decisions and sound judgements based on statistical analysis.
At Lindsay Park Public School, Human Society and its Environment (HSIE) curriculum incorporates the study of people, places and environments, as well as how people and events from the past have shaped societies over time. Through the foundational knowledge, understanding and skills of geography and history, HSIE introduces students to the complex interconnections between people and places, past and present so they can become active, confident, engaged and valued members of Australia’s diverse community. The curriculum is structured around essential strands in Geography and History.
Geography:
- People are connected to places
- People are connected to places and groups
- Geographical information is used to understand the world
- Geographical information is used to plan for sustainable futures.
History:
- People have lived in the past
- People learn about the past by engaging with stories, images, objects and sites
- History uses sources to construct narratives of the past
- Historical sources present perspectives on the past.
At Lindsay Park Public School, the study of Science and Technology in K–6 fosters a student’s sense of wonder about the world around them and knowledge of how it works. Scientific and technological knowledge is revised, refined and advanced as new evidence arises. Learning about science and technology provides a framework for students to know, understand and make sense of the world. This study encourages students to embrace new concepts and learn to observe, develop testable questions, and test and evaluate ideas to refine their understanding. The curriculum is structured around essential strands in Science and Technologies.
Science:
- Observations and questions spark curiosity
- Investigations of changes provide knowledge and understanding
- Physical and living systems depend on energy
- Knowledge of our world and beyond inspires sustainable solutions.
Technologies:
- Observations and questions initiate design and digital solutions
- Design and digital solutions are created through knowledge and understanding
- Design processes and digital systems are used to create solutions
- Design and digital technologies engineer sustainable solutions
Both subject areas are designed to build on students’ natural curiosity and inventiveness, providing opportunities to explore the natural and designed world, test ideas, and make decisions based on data and evidence.
At Lindsay Park Public School, our Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) program is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills to positively influence their own and others’ safety, health and wellbeing. In an increasingly complex, sedentary and rapidly changing world, it is essential that young people develop the ability to critically respond to changing health contexts and evolving physical activity options.
- Movement skill and physical activity
- Respectful relationships and safety
- Identity, health and wellbeing
- Self-management and interpersonal skills
The Creative Arts curriculum encompasses learning in:
- Dance
- Drama
- Music
- Visual Arts.
Each focus area has a distinct body of knowledge, creative and critical practices, and individual ways of understanding the world. Each focus area is acknowledged for its unique contribution to the creative arts.
In addition to the curriculum, students have the opportunity to showcase their talents at various events, such as the School Musical, Southern Stars Arena Spectacular, the School Band, the School Choir, fortnightly Showcase at whole-school assemblies and the annual Art Exhibition. These events highlight their artistic achievements and foster a strong sense of community and engagement in the arts.

Ethics
Ethics class is available at Lindsay Park Public School. Please contact our school office if you are interested in your child attending ethics class.
In ethics, students explore everyday issues suitable for their age. They learn to listen closely to each other, to disagree without putdowns and to think carefully as they form their opinions. Classes are free and are run by specially trained Primary Ethics volunteers, who are often parents and grandparents.
You can find more information about the Primary Ethics curriculum here.
Primary Ethics always needs more volunteer ethics teachers so that all parents have the option of choosing ethics classes for their child. Contact Feyza on Feyza.tuncay@primaryethics.com.au if you’re curious about volunteering.
